The window panes or glasses of your car do two things for you. First, it serves as protection against road debris and prevents too much harm in case of accidents. Second, it provides you access to the environment outside your vehicle, just in case you need to.

Inside a Volvo vehicle, you can be assured that the first function of the window panes would be carried out well; for safety has long been a reputation of Volvo cars. The second function, however, is not guaranteed, for you can only do so if the window regulators of your Volvo are working properly. Sure, Volvo window regulators are of premium quality and were designed for optimum functionality. But just like the window regulators of other vehicles, they simply aren’t meant to last.

The window regulators refer to the window winding mechanisms installed on your vehicle. There are two general types of window regulators, and any of these two may be the one installed on your Volvo. The first type is the manual window regulator, usually found on older vehicles. Manual window regulators allow you to wind the window panes up and down through the use of a hand crank. The hand crank would then control a series of spur gears and worm gears to lift and lower the window glass.

The other type of window regulator is the electric or automatic window regulator, also called power windows. Like the manual window regulator, automatic regulators are also equipped with spur gears and worm gears. But instead of the manual hand crank, a small electric motor is used for the winding mechanism. This electric motor would then be integrated on one of the electronic modules in a vehicle and may be controlled through a switch or a button.

Due to their metallic nature, Volvo window regulators are normally prone to a lot of corrosion. And also because they are regularly used, they may easily deteriorate or wear off. As such, the window regulators of your Volvo may not be reliable for a long time. There’s no need to worry, though, for there are a lot of high quality replacement Volvo window regulators from auto parts sources on and off the Web.
