The small but terrible valve cover of your Volvo
may seem as nothing but a mere cover but mind you, try to drive your
car without the valve cover and you’ll surely conclude in the end that
it truly plays an indispensable role in your car’s over all handling
and performance.
The primary purpose of the valve cover is to
prevent the fuel from splashing, leaking or sputtering as the car moves
in action. Leak is oftentimes treated as a simple problem that can lead
to complicated problems especially if the fuel or gas comes in contact
with any flammable material or substance. Improper installation is one
of the root causes of leakage in the valve. Properly setting the valve
cover in place is a sure solution for such problem.
Inspection and check up of your car’s valve cover must be done regularly to see if
there are defects or damages that need repair or replacement. The
features of the valve cover to be chosen as replacement to the existing
factory component may depend upon the required specifications of the
vehicle. Materials comprising the cover also vary which may commonly
include valve covers in aluminum and plastic.
Valve covers made from aluminum can give
longer lasting service although you must ensure that it is backed up
with baffles to support the PCV system ports. The baffles are means
used to prevent oil leakage in the air filter tray of the car. Added
baffles also facilitate the smooth passage of oil to the various
components of the car.
Valve covers made from plastic are light and
easy to install although its efficiency may be negatively affected by
the imbalance amount of torque produced to supply power for the bolts.
Cars with six cylinders engine have two types of covers positioned on
the left side of the vehicle and the other on the top area.
