Volvo V40
To be called “one of the safest vehicle in its class” is nothing new for the brand that continuously improved their vehicles year after year to achieve the excellence and costumer satisfaction. This is true with the Volvo V40. Released in 1995, the V40 station wagon as Volvo’s entry to the mid-size class and was based on the Mitsubishi Carisma Platform.
The second release of the V40 came in 2004 with a brand new style. It was based on the Volvo P1 platform. The Mazda 3 is the new reference for the V40. The V40 also replaced the V50, also a station wagon that was based in the same P1 platform.
The new Volvo V40 is available in two trims: the V40 and the V40 LSE. Both are powered by Transversely Mounted, 1.9-Liter, 4-Cylinder, Double Overhead Cam, Twin-Scroll Turbocharger with Intercooler. They have the same power output of 170 hp at 5,500 rpm and 177 at 1,800-5,000 rpm of torque, and 134 mph top speed.
Features of the Volvo V40 include Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) (included in Climate Package), daytime running lights, safety-cage passenger compartment, collapsible steering column, side impact air bags for driver and front passenger, inflatable side curtains (IC), whiplash protection seating system (whips), all-seating seatbelt protection, ISOFIX Baby/Child Seat Attachment System, Cruise Control, power-adjustable driver seat, 8-Way with Lumbar Support, and lots of safety features uniquely seen and experienced exclusively for Volvo.
The V40 trim is offered in different packages including the climate package, the premium package, the sport package, and the sport package with leather. The Volvo V40 base model is available at a price tag of $25,700 while the V40 LSE is priced at $29,845.
