Combining design and function, even the rarely noticed Volvo side pillar is intended to produce quality performance and continuing flow to the lines for good aerodynamics, aesthetics and support. The Volvo side pillar supports the roof, the windshield and the rear window. Each side of the vehicle gets three Volvo side pillars from front to end usually. The first Volvo side pillar is called the A-pillar they are connected to the roof and near the hood and they hold and support the windshield. The second from the front is the B-pillar, they are located between the two doors, if it’s a coupe or a two door vehicle, there is no B-pillar. At the ear is the C-pillar, they are connected to the roof and near the trunk of the car.
On vehicles with extra length, like a full-size van or sports utility vehicle, another Volvo side pillar is added and is dubbed the D-pillar. Some vehicles only have the A-pillar, such as a convertible or a hardtop. Volvo side pillars should be created to provide optimum support to the roof so that it can handle extreme stress, forces and pressures. In the event that a car should roll-over or have something fall on the roof, the Volvo side pillar should be able to withstand the impact so that the passengers inside would not be crushed and be safe.
