In front are head lamps or headlights which can be further enhanced by adding fog lights. Headlamps are used for all types of driving but it is better to use the aid that fog lights can give especially if the car travels on foggy, snowy, rainy or slippery highways. A fog light has greater capacity to produce clearer beam to pass through water droplets. Headlamps alone could cause glare or white lights since the light produced could bounce against the droplets.

There are various types of Volkswagen headlamps to match the intended purpose of the user. Headlamps with pencil beams produce long, thin beams of light to provide straight illumination at vast distances. These types are good choice for cars that are bound to travel at high speed in desert areas and mountainous locations. Some car head lights have wider beams of light to illuminate a portion of the side area of the road and to provide clearer visibility of objects or passer-bys at a considerable long distance. Such kind of head lamps are shaped to disperse lights. It is a good choice if the car travels on mountains since it can give a good view of the road corners the car is driving in.

Mounting positions also affect the angle or direction of the light emitted. Small lights can be installed above the front fender but the user must not allow the lights to hit or touch the fender since it can damage the car. Head lamps with white lights must be positioned at the eye level of the driver. For fog lights, ideal position is on the lower area of the head lights to minimize direct reflection on the eyes.
