Not only that Germany became popular for the Black Forest and communism of Nazi, but also known to be the land where Volkswagen, a historical car originated. “People’s Car”, this is what Volkswagen literally means. It’s basically a car that most people can afford to have. The first Volkswagens could carry 5 people, cruise up to 62 mph and 33 mpg, and cost 1000 Reich Marks, a proposed model by Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi. As the governance of Nazi got stronger, the Volkswagen’s name also evolved so as the vehicles. It has gone along with the most historical events in Germany, developed its technology and eventually lined-up with the most popular cars in the whole world. Now, Volkswagen has become the largest automaker in Europe with Beetle as the most popular.
Aside from Beetle Volkswagen innovated other platforms that have really been a great contribution to the achievement that it has reached by now, one of which is the Volkswagen Dasher. Volkswagen Dasher is the name used to refer to Volkswagen Passats that were sold in the United States. It’s a mid size car molded in he Volkswagen assembly plant at Emden, Germany. Volkswagen Dasher or the Passat was the rebadged Audi 80 with a stylish design that can be viewed as the Passat supercar. Dasher can be easily identified from the Audi 80 due to its difference in body designs. The Audi 80 is available only in sedan while the Dasher comes in large hatchback or wagon as well as station wagon and sedan. The latter model had the most widespread production version. Passat became the Volkswagen that became the “1974 Car of the Year” of Wheel’s magazine. And With the continuous upgrading of the units, Passat has endured the competition and test of time, thus exists until the present era and will still be in production in the coming years.
