The 20th century signaled the entry of motor cars and they indeed have become icons. The Volkswagen is among the legendary cars ever produced. At a certain point, the Volkswagen is often referred to be a vintage car brand. To mention, the Beetle was known to be the best-selling car of all time; the Volkswagen bus was used a symbol of a generation, and the Golf was called a modern masterpiece. These are just few of the motor cars which have significantly been parts of the cultural growth of the society and personal lives of at least millions of people.

 

Volkswagen vehicles evolved during the era wherein only a few were privileged and since transportation means were of too much importance that time, the concept of an affordable yet reliable automobile had been conceptualized. “Volks Wagen” literally means cheap people’s car. Because life was not that rewarding during the early years in Germany, not everyone was able to afford the purchase of a car. With this consideration, many car manufacturers before the 1930’s attempted the production of simple-built autos that would satiate the limited capacities of the buying public. Yet, as was expected, no profound success had met such efforts.

 

On the other hand, Ferdinand Porsche had also set up his own automotive design company in 1930. It became known as Porsche Büro. The company specialized in the marketing of a more modern independent front suspension system which was lighter than most other types of suspension. A year later, a German motorcycle company named Zündapp, sought Porche’s help. So Porsche designed a suitable car for them, a streamlined 2-door sedan similar to the lines possessed by the Beetle. None other than Adolf Hitler himself opened up the idea of a Volkswagen that would provide the citizens of Germany a real affordable people’s car. Moreover, it was the great opportunity for Porsche to push through his concept of a small car forward.

 

VW Beetle, VW Cabriolet, VW Eurovan, VW Golf, VW Golf III, VW GTI, VW Jetta, VW Jetta III, VW New Jetta, VW New Passat, VW Phaeton, VW R32, VW Touareg, and VW Vanagon are just among the popular models of the brand. Needless to say, the entire evolution of Volkswagen as an automobile brand has emerged to be a true global force in the name of cars. Would anyone else expect less of Volkswagen especially with the acquisition, re-development, and refurnishing of other giant names such as Audi, SEAT, Skoda, and Lamborghini?
