There are a lot of characteristics by which Toyota
vehicles are known for. One is their reliability on the road. Another
is the longevity of their parts. Toyota vehicles are also well known
for their quality, proficient engineering, and value. All these good
characteristics, however, would deem useless and become unnoticed if
one cannot start his Toyota. It is for this reason why all Toyota
vehicles were equipped with high quality Toyota starters. With Toyota
starters, starting your vehicle's engine from a long halt would be no
problem.
So, how does the engine of your Toyota gets started? The process of
starting your vehicle's engine is a function of the vehicle's starting
system, which is basically made up of the starter motor (or simply
starter) and the starter solenoid. The starter motor is a small
electrical motor that is powered by the vehicle's battery. The starter
solenoid, on the other hand, is a large electronic switch that provides
the contact between the motor and the battery. Once you turn the
ignition key to its 'start' position, the starter solenoid gets engaged
and the starter motor gets energized. Once energized, the starter motor
would begin spinning the engine's crankshaft, thus allowing the engine
to start with the combustion process and the vehicle to start moving.
In the design of starter units, two considerations are made. First, the
starter motor should be strong and powerful enough to effectively start
the engine. The starter motor, generally, should overcome all of the
internal friction caused by the piston rings, the compression pressure
of the cylinders, the energy needed to open and close the valves, and
the power needed to start the various parts connected to the engine,
like the water pump, oil pump, alternator, and others. The second
design consideration would concern the starter solenoid. Since the
starter motor is required to output a large amount of power, it also
needs lot of currents to flow in it and the starter solenoid must be
able to accommodate such large current flows.
Toyota starters are of premium quality and are expected to last long so
you shouldn't be bothered by it any sooner after you first bought your
car. Regular checks and maintenance, however, is still needed to ensure
that it kept in good working condition. And if you ever find the need
to replace the original Toyota starter, make sure that the replacement
parts you will get will match the quality of the original.
