Suzuki Sidekick
If you're looking for a basic four-by-four with an attractive price, the Suzuki Sidekick may be worth a look. But if you're looking for anything other than that, then any other vehicle would generally be a better choice. After all, Suzuki never really promoted the vehicle as something that can provide more. Further, the vehicle is already old, with the last model having rolled off the assembly line way back in 1998. And why is the vehicle still worth a look? Let's just say that durability is the top characteristic of the small SUV.
The Suzuki Sidekick was introduced in the American automotive market in 1989, accompanying the Suzuki Samurai in Suzuki's sport/utility vehicle line up. It was a compact SUV, just slightly larger than the Suzuki Samurai, and was initially available only in four-wheel drive configurations. Two-wheel drive Suzuki Sidekick models, however, soon followed in 1990. From the introduction of the 2WD models until the vehicle model's demise in 1998, the Suzuki Sidekick vehicle line-up virtually stayed the same; composed of the base JS, mid-level JX and upscale JLX trims.
When the Suzuki Sidekick was unveiled, people expected that it would be a better vehicle than the Samurai. Well, the vehicle was indeed better but the improvement still did not make the Suzuki Sidekick a good SUV for daily transportation. It was, without question, a very capable 4x4 vehicle, but being geared too much for the off-road track made it a bad-mannered vehicle on the road. The vehicle's engine wasn't impressive either; although fuel consumption is highly regarded considering that it was an SUV.
On the positive side, the Suzuki Sidekick is very durable, equipped with Suzuki Sidekick parts that were designed not so much to showcase an impressive performance but rigid and tough enough to last for a long time. With the basic parts staying intact for many years, a Suzuki Sidekick would definitely still be capable today as it was capable in 1998. Further, replacement Suzuki Sidekick parts have never been easier to find, especially with the emergence of hundreds of online auto parts stores that offer high quality and high performance Suzuki Sidekick products.
