From the Subaru automobile lineup, you can find the Subaru SVX, sometimes being referred to as the Alcyone or Alcyone SVX. The SVX was a mid-sized sports-touring coupe sold under the Subaru brand from 1991up to 1997. The Subaru SVX is an intermediate car with a size between that of a compact and a full-size or standard-size car. It also belongs to the coupe automobile body style classification that is either a two or four-seater car with a fixed roof and two doors. SVX is not just an ordinary coupe for it can exhibit a sports car-like performance capable of combining acceleration, top speed, braking and maneuverability.
The Subaru SVX features curvy and almost futuristic lines that were designed by a man named Girogetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign and an extraordinary all-glass canopy with 2-piece side windows. These windows are split about two-thirds of the way from the bottom with the division being parallel to the upper curve of the door frame and they are commonly seen on vehicles with “gullwing” or “scissor” doors. The SVX was equipped with a sole engine make-up which is the EG33, 3.3-liter, flat-six engine model. Moreover, the SVX was available in both all-wheel and front-wheel drive.
The Subaru SVX was introduced to the US market in July of 1991 and following it up with the introduction t the Japanese market in September of the same year. Primarily, the SVX was designed as a replacement for the retiring Alcyone XT and Alcyone XT6 coupes. In the early period of the SVX production, sales were pouring on for the SVX selling almost 4, 000 units in 1993 although the target figure was 10, 000 units every year. Unlikely, the Subaru sales were gradually dropping down until it was able to sell only 640 units in year 1997, and because of this, the decision to rest the SVX was realized.
