Subaru Legacy
As a replacement for the Subaru Leone/Loyale, Subaru introduced the Subaru Legacy
in February 1989 to compete in the mid-size sedan category. If first came out
in Australia as Subaru Liberty and later in America a year later. The original
body styles were sedan and station wagon with 2.2 L engine with an optional all
wheel drive version. The first generation went until 1994 until it undergone redesign
which was carried until 1999. The third generation was released from 2000-2004.
Now on its fourth generation, the Subaru Legacy is admired for its sleek design
and large room and cargo space. There are two body styles available for the model:
the sedan which competes with the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, and the station
wagon which is that right alternative to the more expensive Volkswagen Passat.
The fourth generation Legacy produces more power compared to the previous generation.
The 2.5i models can produce 168-horsepower. The four-cylinder engine could be
coupled with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic (with a semi-manual
feature called Sportshift) with an additional cost. The 2.5 GT comes with 250-horsepower.
The GT models are offered with a choice of five-speed manual or five-speed automatic
(Sportshift). The 2.5 GT and the 2.5i engines are offered on both body styles.
The speed, luxury, safety, and finesse of the Subaru Legacy do not come at high
price. The Legacy 2.5i cost starts at a little over $21,000 while the GT at $26,000.
