Since its establishment in the mid-80’s as an autonomous subsidiary of General Motors the Saturn brand has became celebrated in the industry. The name Saturn always stands for value that’s why when you get a Saturn car, you always get what you pay for. From the start, the word value has been a key to Saturn’s marketing philosophy and until now, the company is still serious about it especially in their new models.
The SC is just among the Saturn models with great value and great looks to go with it. It comes in coupe, sedan and wagon bodystyles and in SC1 and SC2 versions. The Saturn SC coupes, sedans and wagons share the same 102.4-inch wheelbase, which denotes a stable platform providing firm ride quality and good headroom in the cabin.
The SC1 comes with a 1.9-liter, four-cylinder, single overhead-cam powerhouse that is capable of producing 100 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 114 foot-pounds of torque rated at 2400 rpm. Offered with more convenience features, larger wheels and more aggressive tires, the SC2 owes its power from a double overhead cam 16-valve version of the same engine which generates 124 horsepower.
Unlike the previous versions, the Saturn SC1 and SC2 are made up of the same body panels, utilizing the side panels composed of Saturn’s ding-resistant polymer material. All Saturn SCs are outfitted with a space frame that allows the utilization of the polymer doors, fenders, quarter panels and fascias. It is one unique feature of Saturns that keeps their followers loyal. This material is not only dent and ding-resistant but also rust-proof and recyclable.
The SC1 don’t run fast but its 100 horses do a decent job of moving the car in the road at a reasonable speed. So if you want a faster car with better acceleration, the SC2 is the right car for you. The handling of Saturn SC is relatively good, with a suspension that works well in almost any kind of surface.
