Most of us would classify engine parts as either important or unimportant. We consider those that we see as directly related to performance as important, like the cylinders, valves, pistons, camshaft, crankshaft and other moving parts. The stationary parts, however, are often considered as unimportant because they don't seem to contribute to the engine's over-all performance. Among these seemingly unimportant engine parts is the oil pan.

The oil pan is the thin sheet metal pan attached to the bottom of the engine's crank case. It is in the oil pan where the engine oil is collected after it has circulated through the various engine parts to provide lubrication and cooling. Because of this simple function, most oil pans take the form of a simple container, without any complicated part housed within it.

Experts, however, would tell you that engine oil pans are just as important as the other parts of your vehicle's engine are. Aside from serving as the reservoir for the dripping oil at the side of the crank case, cleverly designed oil pans also features trap doors and baffles that controls oil flow direction and pools the oil into the oil pan pick up for a more effective circulation during aggressive driving. These types of oil pans also often features magnetic drain plugs that would not only allow old oil to flow out of the pan but also collects metal fragments from the oil.

Saturn vehicles may not be expected to perform better than a lot of other well-known vehicles, but they are guaranteed to perform at their best at all times. This is because they are equipped with engines composed only of the finest engine parts like the Saturn oil pan. Saturn oil pans are designed in such a way that they can aid in the proper circulation of the engine oil they collect. And aside from aiding in circulation, Saturn engine oil pans are also made from materials that can aid in the proper cooling of the engine oil.
