A door may just be an ordinary part of the
vehicle. Certainly, all cars have doors for safety reasons but just
like other critical parts in your car such as the power train and drive
train components, auto makers have also given great amount of effort
and time in designing and building the doors of your car. As part of
the body, the doors protect the occupants inside the vehicle from
outside elements, especially during a collision. Doors are also needed
for your car to pass through the air with little resistance and lastly,
to give your car the best outward appearance.
The door of a vehicle is composed of an inner and outer panel. Usually,
it is the inner panel that provides the structural strength while the
outer panel serves as a skin or covering. In the inner panel, you will
see holes and mountings for the window parts and locks. A bare inner
door panel would be unsightly so it is covered by another panel, called
the door trim, usually in vinyl material.
Since doors are often slammed as they are being opened and closed, they
are more prone to damages, dents and cracks. Furthermore, doors are
exposed to the air, dust and rain so they are prone to rust and
corrosion. For this reason, they must be extra durable and reliable.
Saturn cars are standout in this regard. All Saturn models, from the
Saturn Ion to the Saturn L300 Sedan, Saturn Vue and Saturn Relay
feature polymer doors and side panels. This means that Saturn doors are
dent- and corrosion-resistant and they are also finely finished giving
the Saturn vehicle a fresh look all the time.
Polymer doors of Saturn cars perfectly complement Saturn’s unique
high-strength steel spaceframe. This is the same material used on
high-end racing cars that are more susceptible to high-impact
collisions. This perfect combination of the tough body frame and
corrosion –resistant polymer doors and body panels gives the Saturn
occupants maximum protection and worry-free ride.
