The early breakdown of the car’s engine can be caused by the non-performance of the harmonic balancer. When the torsional vibration is not reduced or controlled, there will be hasty wearing of the engine’s main bearings and main journals, thereby triggering crankshaft failure. The crankshaft is a component which runs the length of an engine and converts the up-and-down motion of the pistons and connecting rods during the combustion cycle into rotary motion that spins the transmission and, finally, the drive wheels. Because the crankshaft is one important component, it is but right to preserve it.

You may ask as to where do harmful vibrations come from. Every vehicle experiences vibration every time combustion takes place inside the cylinder. This vibration comes from the extremely rapid rise in the cylinder pressure known as torque spike that is likened to a hammer blow. Said pressure turns into a force that is applied to the crankshaft via a connecting rod, and such force intensity causes the crankshaft to turn, deflect or twist. This twisting action is the one called torsional harmonic vibration.
