Installation of new rocker panels may require welding although it may also depend on the type of body panel features of the car. A grinder with a cutting disc is preferable to cut the sloped area of the old rocker panel. Be careful not to cut into the outrigger since it is needed for the attachment of the new one. The surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to attain successful welding. Remove the remaining rocker that sticks on the surface to have a flat base for the new rocker panel. Cutting of the upper portion of the rocker would also depend on the shape of the replacement rocker panel. Panels with U shaped rubber seal channel needs a part of the old panel to remain in place so in that case, cutting could vary. However if it does not fit the old panel, the owner has no other choice but to remove the channel for the seal unless he wants to spend for a new one. Protection of the rocker panel is also needed against chipping, rut and dirt. That purpose can be given by adding rocker panel guards. It is needed especially if the car is used for off-road driving especially on rocky areas. It is offered in various sizes to match the distinct configuration of the car.
