Pontiac Ventura
Have you ever heard of the Pontiac Ventura? Or have you ever seen one?
Or are you even familiar with the Pontiac Ventura vehicle brand name?
You surely know what a Pontiac is, but if you don't own a Pontiac
Ventura, I doubt that you really know about the car. The Pontiac
Ventura is one of the most underrated and unpopular vehicle
manufactured by General Motors. But while it is not very popular, it is
surprising that there were actually two distinct Pontiac vehicles that
used the nameplate.
The first of the two Pontiac Ventura vehicles was introduced
by the Pontiac division in 1961, and was sold and manufactured for only
two years. This Ventura is a mid-size car in a 2-door hardtop coupe
body style. Judging by its appearance, the Pontiac Ventura may be
considered as classic Pontiac vehicle, but interest in the vehicle
among collectors seems to be low. This is understandable, as the car
never really became as popular like other Pontiac greats.
The second of the two Pontiac Ventura vehicles first appeared
in 1971. It was a compact car available in 2-door coupe, 2-door
hatchback, and 4-door sedan body styles. Named as the Pontiac Ventura
II until the 1973 model year, the car was Pontiac's version of the GM
X-body car. It was essentially a re-badged version of the Chevrolet
Nova and was introduced in the market along with the other Chevy Nova
clones like the Oldsmobile Omega and the Buick Apollo. The Pontiac
Ventura was dropped from Pontiac's vehicle line-up after 1977 along
with the other GM X-body cars.
While the second Pontiac Ventura lasted longer in the market
compared to the two-year stint of the first, it was never really more
popular. The GM X-body platform had a lot of design flaws, giving not
only the Pontiac Ventura but also all the other GM X-body cars a bad
reputation.
Today, you'll rarely see a Pontiac Ventura being driven on our
major streets and thoroughfares. Also hard to find are replacement,
repair, and restoration Pontiac Ventura parts. But if you are a Pontiac
Ventura owner, you don't have to worry because even if Pontiac Ventura
parts are rare, you can surely locate through the Internet.
