Never be confused on what an overflow and expansion tanks are. One thing is for
sure, they are two different terms used to refer to different car components.
An overflow tank is used for a conventional cooling system, that is, with the
use of a radiator with a filler neck. On the other hand, an expansion tank has
a sealed radiator system, the opposite of the first. Expansion tanks are nonetheless
made up of formed copper sheeting soldered together to form the expansion tank.
Pontiac radiator overflowing tank are add-ons that back up the radiator in its effort of maintaining the normal temperature of the vehicle while the engine busies itself with its own work. Installing the Pontiac radiator overflow tank is easy. You yourself can do it or you can
let a professional technician do the stuff. First, find a perfect place where
you can bolt or screw the Pontiac radiator overflow tank into the inner fender
of the car. Get the radiator overflow vent hose and route it to the overflow tank
as you insert the hose into it. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator
and keep it just topped up from ½” to 1” below the bottom of the filler neck.
A radiator cap must be placed on the overflow tank to avoid spilling. In trying
to check on how the system goes, never remove the radiator cap that is positioned
on the radiator unless you are sure that the system is already cold. Removing
the radiator cap while too much pressure or heat plays on the radiator will cause
hot steam and coolant to get sprayed on you thus giving you burning sensations
and wounds. Extreme caution must be observed in dealing with a closed cooling
system such as this.
Every Pontiac vehicle can be installed with a radiator overflow tank. With this,
you not only get concerned with environmental reasons but you also ensure the
safety of your vehicle, yourself, and your passengers as well.
