In the Pontiac vehicle lineup, the Grand Am is equipped with an A-body. A body is General Motor’s A-platform which is devoted for midsize car automobiles. This A-body has evolved from being rear wheel drive compact cars to front wheel drive midsize sedans for over three decades. The A-body Pontiac Grand Am started to be produced by 1973 but was rescinded 8 years after.
Going through for about 4 times of reintroduction, the Pontiac Grand Am has developed from being a compact car having an A-body platform to having it based after the N-platform in 1985, and was redesigned in 1992 to have a fresher look. In 1999, it again had a redesign, and the ultimate Grand Am sedan was assembled by the 2004 and the production of it was discontinued since then. The 1999 Grand Am generation was offered as the SE, SE1, SE2 and GT with each one adding power windows, a more powerful 2.4-liter V6 engine, and alloy wheels.
For 2005, the Pontiac Grand Am persisted on a consistent sales rate while the Pontiac G6 has replaced the entire Grand Am lineup by 2006. For 32 years, the Grand Am is considered to be a success in the Pontiac lineup and at the same time of General Motors.
