Pontiac Aztek
In the technological developments or shall we say, advancements, lots are being created for the purpose of providing easier way of life. These can be compared with the development of ancient civilizations from which one of GM's creations can always be connected, the Aztek. Only the last letter of the word makes a difference with one of the MesoAmerican Civilizations called Aztec. In order to be not confused of the two, remember that the one ending with a C refers to civilization, while the one that ends with a K produces kinetic energy, something that is moving, a vehicle.
Aztek was engineered under the Pontiac marque of General Motors Corporation as a multi-purpose vehicle that's ready to load-up and take the weight of its job. It was first introduced to the public in 1999 originally as a concept car. Aztek was then possessing Xtreme futuristic styling and maximum versatility to suit young and active lifestyle and cater on the Generation X buyer demographic. But within the launch of the later concept, the Cross-Over SUV, Pontiac Aztek received much of criticisms than praises. Apparently the sales were disappointing.
Pontiac Aztek's built was based on a shortened version of GM's second generation of U Platform minivans. This body design was partially blamed for the ugliness of the vehicle. In the purpose of covering the minivan's structure within a sport utility vehicle design, GM decided to relocate the radiator and made a costly positioning of the windshield. The result was a disappointing disproportionate façade look, apparently also a reason for its poor sales. However, it still has got values that can never be put behind. Its versatility was undoubtedly unmatched.
Produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe assembly plant in Mexico, this platform set its wheels on road fully equipped with four-wheel drive that has got Versatrak. This device is a full time, fully-automatic all wheel drive system that's built to provide efficient traction over snow and wet roads. It has also the capacity to give moderate performance on off-road tracks, yet cannot match other vehicle's power to conquer serious rugged trailing.
