Although the first Peugeot automobile was produced in 1889 in the form
of a steam-powered three-wheeled car, more modern range of Peugeot
automobiles started its production after the new company devoted
exclusively to automobiles under the name of “Société des Automobiles
Peugeot” was founded in 1896. It was after the establishment of this
company that the vehicles they produce were already being powered with
an automobile engine. In an era where automobiles were regarded as
already no more than just a luxury item to many and demands were
growing into an escalation, Peugeot was already in the scene to meet
these demands. Early in the 20th century, Peugeot vehicles appeared in
the market and started to create a niche in the automotive industry.
Adoption of the three-digit with a zero in the middle names to Peugeot
vehicle models occurred in 1929 and was eventually recognized as the
famous Peugeot way. Aside from the Lion emblem donned by Peugeot cars,
the model names (model name is located on a plate on the front of the
car) contributed to the easy recognition of Peugeot automobiles.
Peugeot 201 was the first Peugeot car that carried such name and was
likewise seen sporting the first independent front suspension. Soon
after, more technologically crafted and elegantly styled vehicles were
followed to join into the lineup of Peugeot models. Peugeot classic
sedans and small models were seen to grace the automotive industry
around 1960’s.
Commitment to the industry has taken Peugeot’s tradition and innovation
to tackle the evolution of their strategies and manufacturing
techniques cautiously that brought about the current Company’s mission
to meet both the design team’s dedication and the customer requirements
as well. The end products included now different range of spectacular
vehicles that speak of uniqueness and exclusive quality attributes.
Production of stylish vehicles included Peugeot 107, Peugeot 1007,
Peugeot 206, Peugeot 307, Peugeot 407, Peugeot 607, Peugeot 807, and
Peugeot Partner.
