When you are on the verge of bumping into another vehicle, your first
instinct is to brake as immediately as possible before your vehicle
would come into contact with another. Now, how would you think your
vehicle could get away from that near-road accident? Apart from your
ability to react instantaneously with this kind of situation, it is the
anti-lock braking system (ABS) that is the most active automotive
system in your vehicle, Oldsmobile model. When the wheels of your
vehicle sense the irregularities of the road surface, the ABS comes to
rescue and aid the driver to avoid dangers.
Although vehicles without an anti-lock braking system can traverse on
slippery roads by pumping the brakes to unlock the wheels and stay
straight during the stop, stopping will take longer than the one with
ABS. This poses a lot of risk as when the stopping distance was not
gauged exactly. Furthermore, the drivers won’t be able to take full
control of these vehicles while skidding, while those vehicles equipped
with ABS will leave the rest of the job to the device after the driver
put a hold on the pedal. Simply put, an anti-lock braking system is
more advantageous in such a manner of providing the shortest stopping
distance. There is no need to pump the brakes instead apply and hold it
and the system will do the rest.
The anti-lock braking system is composed of four major components:
controller, valves, pump, and the speed sensors. The speed sensors are
responsible for the job of detecting when the wheel is about to
lock-up. It picks-up the information while the valves and pumps are
executing their tasks. The information gathered is sent through the
controller, the computer of the vehicle. It will then pick up the data
gathered by the sensors so this is the device that is watching the
speed sensors all the time.
When the speed sensor of your Oldsmobile is not functioning, the
controller won’t be able to pick-up the right signal. Hence, its
less-than-efficient performance may compromise the safety that’s
supposedly its function. To avoid encountering this, make sure that the
speed sensors of your Oldsmobile vehicle is regularly checked. Any
detection of slight damage should be addressed the soonest possible
time to discourage any bigger problem.
