Oldsmobile Omega
Oldsmobile Omega
In 1973, the timely release of Oldsmobile Omega to the automotive industry was a big sigh of relief from the burdens of the rising fuel crisis. Before this type of cars appeared into the automotive scene, muscle cars were visibly dominating the majority of automotive activities. But in 1970's when the crisis in oil erupted in the North of America and suddenly threatened the industry, muscle cars' popularity was slowed down causing production to gradually decline. This dilemma was saved when compact cars arrived into the scene with Oldsmobile's, one of America's oldest marques ever to live, with Omega fronting the line. People were preferring Oldsmobile Omega model and the likes because of the fact these cars eat up lesser fuel consumption than that of muscle cars do.
Oldsmobile Omega is a model compact car released by that sold for two generations. Compact cars are indeed a relief to many as these vehicles promise of a better fuel mileage. Oldsmobile Omega cars were based on the GM X-body platform that also shared most of the parts with Chevrolet models. The first generation of Oldsmobile Omega from Oldsmobile division of General Motors started in 1973 model year and ended in 1979 with rear wheel drive clone of Chevrolet Nova. The end of the first generation gave way to the birth of the second generation of production in 1980. This time, however, Oldsmobile Omega were a cloned front-wheel drive from another Chevrolet kin, the Chevrolet Citation.
Consumers of Oldsmobile chose between the three body styles of Oldsmobile Omega: 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and the 3-door hatchback. However, due to some reasons the company harboured, production were stopped in 1984. It was a sad demise but it left a significant mark in the industry with compact cars that would be forever a part of the history and once offered better option for the consumers that suffered from the apparent financial dilemma brought down by the fuel crisis. And these cars' advantage over other similar built make it a reason to continuously retain its presence in the industry over the years.
