Oldsmobile cars were first created by the then Olds Motor Vehicle Company founded by a man named Ransom E. Olds in year 1897. Several years after the Olds establishment, the Curved Dash Olds was introduced selling over 420 car units which became the first high-volume car during that time.

The Oldsmobile, being a young car company has amazingly become the top selling car maker in the United States within a short period because of the Curved Dash Olds. But sometime after the Olds' success, unexpected financial difficulties were encountered that moved Ransom Olds to leave the company to form the REO Motor Car Company and lead to the General Motors' buy out of the Olds Motor Vehicle Company.

Under the General Motors, Oldsmobile cars were sold bearing a technical sophistication in them and became the first American cars with an automatic transmission and the first also to use chrome and other first features such as the automatic headlight dimmers. Following one shortly after the other, Oldsmobile is slowly catching its phase into the road of success.

The year 1982 is somewhat memorable for the Oldsmobile as an automobile manufacturer for it marked the birth of its new model called the Oldsmobile Firenza. The Oldsmobile Firenza came to live for six years until 1988. Principally, it is an automobile offered in two body styles either as a two-door hatchback or as a two-door coupe and driven as front-wheel cars.

Firenza was also based on the General Motor's popular J-body platform which you can find in almost all GM automobiles especially during the early 1980s. The said J-body platform was designed to replace the H-body platform. The engines available for Firenza were the 2 liters, 4 cylinder unit and the 2.8, 6 cylinder unit only. Nearing the final years of Firenza production, four trims were available to which are the S 2-door hatchback, the LC 2-door coupe, the GT 2-door hatchback and the GT 2-door coupe.
