Oldsmobile Delta 88
During the golden years of Oldsmobile, the company had produced several models which were considered as the greatest Olds ever existed. This was also the time when the fire-breathing engine vehicles were hottest. One of the models released in this period was the Oldsmobile Delta 88.
The Oldsmobile Delta 88 was introduced as an official Olds model in 1969 when it replaced the older Oldsmobile Delmont 88. But the name Delta had already appeared as a trim model of the Dynamic 88 way back 1965. It was part of the 88 series that had also produced several other models such as the Jetstar, Super, Starfire, and Holiday among others. During its first year, the Delta 88 was offered in Royale line which rode on the GM B platform. Over the next few years, the Delta 88 offered a couple of options: the town sedan and the coupe. The Royale which was the top of the line trim of the Delta 88 in its first year was dropped but replaced by the new Royale Brougham that was introduced in 1979.
In 1985, the new Delta 88 was introduced with the name of Delta 88 Royale Brougham LS which eventually became the most luxurious Olds on rear wheel. A year later, the 'Delta' in the Delta 88 name was dropped. This was the same year when the former Delta88's length was reduced to 110.8 in wheelbase. The Delta 88 was never revived but the name remembered by its luxurious interior partnered by big block engines that made the Delta very popular up to this time.
