Oldsmobile Aurora is a luxury car that was purposely created to to revive the name of Oldsmobile in 1995. The odd thing was that, the vehicle was supposed to carry the name Oldsmobile but didn't actually had it. It's a 4-door sedan, that had a body similar to that of the two-door Buick Riviera, a G-body platform. The engine that power's its operation was an extensive Oldsmobile engine, the Aurora L47 DOHC V8. Complementing the power brought by the powertrain, Aurora was built with a high structure quality and refined ride, plus a styling that was satisfactory.
In the first generation of Aurora's production, a lone engine was used, that was until 1999. When 2000 entered the second generation had begun. This time, Oldsmobile decided to use a less expensive G platform to replace the prior one, which was subsequently shared with other vehicles under the General Motors such as the Park Avenue, Lesabre and Bonneville. Aside from the V8, Aurora also got a V6 engine as an option.
Only a few more years was left for Oldsmobile to present its innovations, but then time seemed too short, for the division's closure is fast coming. The last segment of production, Oldsmobile produced only a very limited number for the Aurora. Only 500 units was made available for its last roll. The3.5-liter V6 engine was dropped in favor of the L47 4.0-liter V8 engine, thus only one engine turned to be the last captain of the machine.
The closure of Oldsmobile, one of the world's most loved vehicles, was practically done to let more advanced technology rule. The trend of classic cars has gone past, and the customers expect state-of-the-art vehicles that show futuristic concept. And since, Oldsmobile seemed to stick to that “classic concept”, the company could just lose with it. Nevertheless, Oldsmobile Aurora and all the rest of Olds truly contributed lots of valuable contributions in the industry, which apparently has left GM a heritage that only Oldsmobile can give.
