Isn’t it nicer and more comfortable to ride in a
Nissan that’s producing lesser vibrations? It’s like traveling on a
much smoother asphalted or paved road than on rugged ones. But
definitely, vibrations caused by road irregularities and torsion cannot
be avoided. Torsional vibrations are normally generated during the
engine operation, apparently would be eliminated only after the engine
is turned off, so as vibrations obtained from the road. If the
involuntary movements caused by vibrations cannot be eliminated while
the Nissan is still running, then the best that can be done is to
reduce its effect to the whole machine. Basically, the solution of the
company’s engineers to such unwanted engine effect is to incorporate
Nissan harmonic balancers.
Harmonic balancer is a vibration damper that’s being connected to the front part
of the crankshaft. It is a two-piece balancer connected by rubber
plugs, spring loaded friction discs or both. It works on redirecting
the twisting power generated by the cylinder, from the heavy part of
the damper to the rubber or discs that connects the two parts of the
damper. In operation, the twisting power hits the crankshaft, the
balancer then absorbs the energy. But because of the heavy construction
of harmonic balancer, the twist then ends up with the more subtle
connection of rubber. The motion subsequently speeds up the damper
wheel which makes the crankshaft operation calm.
Faulty Nissan harmonic balancers would set the engine unto problematic
operation. This trouble is often caused by a harmonic balancer that
doesn’t move on a standard speed. Consequently the front crank also
slows down. Remember, in order to ensure quality engine performance,
all Nissan performance parts must be in perfect condition including
Nissan harmonic balancers. Another benefit of harmonic balancers or
vibration dampers is their capacity to reduce wear on the main bearing
and main journals, aside from preventing crankshaft failure. If you
decide to replace the stock Nissan harmonic balancers with substandard
aftermarket dampers, you’re putting your Nissan behind all other
vehicles when it comes to performance.
