The traditional image of pickup trucks has always been the same. They are always
thought of to be massive and hulking. Pickups are always associated with such
size because they are relied on to perform certain tasks. They are supposed to
be tough, all-purpose vehicles capable of dependability like no other.
The conventional image of pickups being hardy and unwieldy plays an important
role in their reliability as perceived by onlookers. This is because anything
that possesses a large frame can easily be associated with power and performance.
Such are believed to be more capable of carrying large amounts of cargo as well
as traversing difficult country roads. This may be the reason why the advent of
compact pickups came as a surprise to those who believe that in vehicles, size
really matters.
Pioneered by the Nissan Motor Company, compact pickups came into being in the
year 1959. The development of pickups much smaller than the usual set a trend
for other vehicle manufacturers to follow. Mazda and Toyota soon started manufacturing
their own, and the compact pickup became as common on the streets as the traditional
pickup.
One of the many models from the Nissan line of vehicles that fit the description
of a compact pickup to a T is the Nissan Frontier. A compact vehicle by all means,
many were amazed by the fact that these small vehicles were able to prove themselves
to be as competitive as their bigger counterparts. They were able to reach everyone’s
expectations concerning how they would fare in predicaments only sturdier pickups
can manage.
Although newer and more sophisticated Nissan Frontier models have abandoned the
compact class, they are still the smallest in the range of mid-size pickups that
they have become part of. They continue to prove that power does not necessarily
come from having an enormous appearance – only superb quality and a really tough
structure, characteristics that the Nissan Frontier can be proud of.
