But forced to comply with the law, Nissan adopted the new technology then to reduce the emission of harmful gasses that is emitted by the combustion of the engine. The catalytic converter proved to be the best invention of that time that saved the industry.

Several innovations catalytic converters had occurred. To improve the technology, three significant persons who took up the challenge to reduce the emission of harmful gasses coming from the vehicle that changed the history of automobile. Rodney Bagley, Irwin Lachman, and Ronald Lewis developed the "world's first significant pollution control for automobiles" Their catalytic converter was made from "ceramic honeycomb enables 95 percent of the pollutants from the exhaust to be converted into harmless water vapor and carbon dioxide."
