The Nissan 810 is a four-door sedan which is introduced by Datsun (Nissan today) in 1977. Though the 1977 810 was the largest sedan Nissan had ever sold in the United States, it was also a move headed for the deepest part of the American mainstream. The Nissan 810 was not just another Asian alternative to inexpensive American sedans such as Chevy Nova, Dodge dart, or Ford Maverick, but it is somewhat comparable to the well-equipped conventional Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Mercurys of today.
It has also something to say when talking about sophistication; the 810 can challenge the European vehicles like the BMW 3 Series and Volvo 240- and 260-series. It is more than capable of carrying Nissan’s luxury sedan torch for the coming years. With the wide array of features and options, this vehicle will surely move from aficionado’s niche car to a more mass-market sedan that is able to filch car buyers away from the much more sedate Honda and Toyota offerings.
First thing to show off is the rear-drive chassis that features an all-independent suspension which consists of MacPherson struts up front and semitrailing arms in the back. Then, there’s the powerful engine that can take you places without much effort. The pleasing blend or durable components extends to the Nissan 810’s handling characteristics also. There is mild understeer and no abrupt transition during hard cornering. The suspension provides a comfortable ride; the brakes are easy to maneuver.
And what about the exterior and interior design of the Nissan 810? Well, the cabin is spacious enough; there are wide and seats to accommodate you. The dashboard offers a sleek and modern design. When combined all in all, the Nissan 810 is packed with comfort, luxury and value which were apparently enough for it to rise above the dreadful styling to become a solid sales hit for Nissan.
