Mercury Monterey
When it comes to
choosing a vehicle that what we think will best suit us, we prefer
differently and we choose in a rather varied way; some of us prefer
simplicity while some prefer those vehicles with all the luxury known
in the automotive world while still others prefer the sporty feel and
appearance of performance vehicles. Good thing, the automotive industry
understands just how heir markets are separated into segments that has
different vehicle needs. Indeed, the automotive market is composed of
different kind of market segments thus automakers choose on what kind
of automobiles they'll offer specifically. Ford, for example, has
created Mercury to offer lines of vehicles in the semi-luxury segment;
it offers models such as Mercury Mariner, Mercury Commuter, Mercury
Bobcat, Mercury Capri, Mercury Monterey, etc.
Founded in 1939, Mercury is a brand of automobile from Ford Motor
Company tasked to market semi-luxury cars; it is slotted between the
entry-level Ford and the Luxury Lincoln models. Named after the Roman
God, Mercury, all Mercury vehicles in its early years were known as
fast cars. To date, most Mercury models are based on Ford vehicle
platforms. Mercury, in its early years in the automotive business has
been to several merging, undergone changes and ups and downs. In 1945,
Ford combined Mercury with Lincoln making the Lincoln-Mercury Division;
the division was joined by the Edsel in 1958, thus it became the
Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln Division. However, Edsel was demised in 1960 and
the division remained as Lincoln-Mercury ever since. This division had
produced many automobile models for years, including the Monterey
carrying the Mercury marquee.
The Mercury Monterey is a model that first appeared in Mercury's lineup
in 1950; it was sold and manufactured until 1973 when it was replaced
by the more luxurious Mercury Marquis. The Monterey was then a full
sized passenger automobile. The Monterey reappeared in the lineup in
2002 to fill for the canceled Mercury Villager. Currently, the Monterey
is a minivan which is Mercury's version of the 2004 Ford Freestar.
Monterey sports a 201-hp 4.2 Liter V6 engine from Ford which is
believed to have the most torque in the minivan class nowadays. The
Monterey also sports unique features that include heated/cooled front
seats, power slide doors, a DVD player, a stowable and tailgating 3rd
row seat, etc. Its declining sales however indicates that it would
probably be dropped in mercury's lineup by 2008.
