Mercury Commuter
If there are few
good things in this modern world where performance vehicles are just
about every corner, every display centers and every streets; well,
isn't it seeing old model and vintage vehicles once again and
reminiscing how it did well on its glorious days. And for the many auto
manufacturers in the automotive industry today, everyone of them has
their fair share of vintage models and among them is Mercury. Mercury
is an automobile marquee that created vehicle models such as the Mercury Commuter,
Mercury Bobcat, Mercury Comet, Mercury Colony Park, Mercury Capri, etc.
Such models were known for their sleek performance, stylish designs and
exquisiteness during their respective glorious days in the automotive
industry.
The name Mercury came from Ford; Ford Motor Company
founded it in 1939 to sold and manufacture semi-luxury cars that are
slotted between Ford's entry-level and Lincoln models. Mercury became
known for its fast cars in its early years; complementing its name
which was taken from the Roman God Mercury. Mostly, Mercury vehicles
were created based on Ford vehicle platforms. Ford, in 1945, decided to
combine Mercury with Lincoln; making the Lincoln-Mercury Division. The
LM was joined by Edsel in 1958, forming the Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln
Division. Unfortunately, Edsel was totally demised in 1960 leaving
Lincoln and Mercury in the group; it remained as the Lincoln-Mercury
Division since then.
Like Edsel, Mercury was created by Ford from scratch as compared to
Lincoln which was acquired through takeover. Mercury was in its heyday
during the 50's when their idea of stretching and lowering existing
Ford platforms was very successful and was embraced by the public in
good terms. Mercury, though suffered from many ups and downs during its
entire stay in the automotive market. However, it has created lots of
good models; among them is the Mercury Commuter. The Commuter had
gained many followers and praises from its owners and buyers. It has
achieved reviews such as a vehicle that standout with its commanding
profile and tasteful trim; and a vehicle that exemplifies the finest
example of how beauty can be built into a wagon. The Commuter mostly
offered sophisticated interior like all-vinyl choices in different
colors.
