Mercedes Benz’ long time success in the industry is a testament of its excellence and innovativeness. Among Mercedes Benz cars that embody this oldest car manufacturer’s reputation are the Mercedes Benz E-class models. The E-class is a range of mid-size cars, starting with the 2.6 L V6 equipped E200 Kompressor and ending with the supercharged 5.5L V8 equipped E55 AMG.
The E-class models trace their history back to the first modern midsize car of Mercedes Benz, the W120 model. The E-class designation was officially given to the new line of midsize cars in 1986, the W124 models, although some Mercedes Benz gasoline models had been using “E” in their names prior to this year. The Mercedes Benz E320 model is among the E-class mid-size cars. This sedan is powered by a 3.2L 18-valve V6 engine that generates 165 kW or 224 horsepower at 5600 rpm. For the 2005 model year, the Mercedes Benz E320 was also offered in a wagon body style. It got the same engine as the Mercedes Benz E320 sedan.
Another version of the E320 is the Mercedes Benz E320 CDI, which is equipped with a 3.2L 24-valve I6 diesel engine that is capable of producing 204 horsepower at 4200 rpm. The letters “CDI” stands for Common-Rail Direct Injection, which is the main feature of this 2005 model. This type of fuel injection that constantly supplies very high fuel pressure to each solenoid injector valve, provides the E320 a more powerful yet quieter and cleaner operation than most mechanically injected diesel engines.
Many do not prefer diesel cars because they are known to be slower and noisy but the Mercedes Benz E320 CDI doesn’t perform like a diesel. It has very good acceleration, which has been noted in many reviews of this vehicle. The E320 CDI also passes almost all US states’ emission standards as its engine significantly produces 20 to 30 percent lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to gasoline engines. This car is indeed another remarkable car from Mercedes Benz.
