The letters "CDI" stands for Common-Rail Direct Injection, which is the main feature of this 2005 model. This type of fuel injection that constantly supplies very high fuel pressure to each solenoid injector valve, provides the E320 a more powerful yet quieter and cleaner operation than most mechanically injected diesel engines.

Many do not prefer diesel cars because they are known to be slower and noisy but the Mercedes Benz E320 CDI doesn't perform like a diesel.
