Mazda Rx7

The risk that Mazda took in producing an inexpensive two-seater sports car in 1978 is the key to the success of Mazda Rx7. It was produced during the time when the hot sports cars are in the last days of its stay in the limelight. Car critics expect failure but Mazda Rx7 proved them wrong. About 2000 units were produced, all sold successfully. It made its debut in the public auto industry of Japan on March 30, 1978 and April 24, 1979 in the United States. More Americans were impressed with the distinct sporty style and affordability of the vehicle. A dynamic 12A rotary engine was used. It may not be as powerful as the others but the over-all performance of the vehicle made it fun and easy to drive.

Some of the features are based on Mazda RX-3 but the differences were more focused on the exteriors. The power trains are perfectly located which provide balance and optimum road performance. The front mid-engine Mazda Rx7 has engine located on the front axle together with a 50/50 weight distribution in between the front and rear tires, suspension made up of MacPherson struts, and rear axle on coil spring along with four trailing links and Watts link. Three available transmissions provide wider selection to match the type of driving the user wants, the standard four-speed manual transmission, optional five-speed manual with overdrive and optional three speed automatic.

Mazda RX7 sold in the United States was sold as a two-seater since a rear collision brace in the back of the front seats is a must to pass US safety test while the models in Japan has backseat offered instead. On the car's dash instrumentation are centrally positioned tachometer, a 130 mph speedometer, clock cluster and temperature gauges. S and GTS are the two available models. Back then, S Mazda RX7 can be bought for as affordable as $6,305 while the GS is $600 higher but with additional amenities that can surely provide comfort, pleasure and fun.
