Mazda Oxygen Sensor
Something is wrong with your car. And, of course, whatever it is
that is wrong is bothering you as well. What exactly do you do? Before
you do anything, one thing you may want to keep in mind though. What
may be bothering your car may be just one of the telltale signs that
something is not right with your Mazda oxygen sensor. You see, the
Mazda oxygen sensor is one of the most critical sensors in and about
your car. It actually looks like a spark plug and is found in the
exhaust between your car's turbo and catalytic converters.
This oxygen sensor has a ceramic body and has a platinum tip. The tip of
this sensor is protected by a metal casing. The outer part of this
coated ceramic is what is exposed to the oxygen in your car's exhaust
system. What the Mazda oxygen sensor actually does for you and your car
is it monitors and detects the air-fuel mixture of your car by
measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust gases. It then sends a
voltage signal to the Electronic Control Module or ECU. The ECU then
monitors this voltage.
Now, depending on the value of the signal that was received, it then issues
a command to the mixture control solenoid on the carburetor of your car
so that it can adjust and trim the air-fuel mixture to richer or leaner
conditions. What also happens is that the oxygen sensor when heated
contains a heating element integrated into the sensor itself. This
heating element aids in the warming up to the proper operating
temperature and it also aids in maintaining that temperature.
The Mazda oxygen sensor requires a high temperature, about 350° Celsius
or greater, for it to operate. Another big plus you would be receiving
from this oxygen sensor is that it has the ability to keep emissions of
carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and unburned hydrocarbons as low
as possible. Now with the Mazda oxygen sensor, your car will actually
run smoother with lesser trouble.
