When one speaks of Lincoln, what immediately comes to mind is
Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the United States.
This greatness gave him fame that went beyond expectation. It would not
be so surprising, then, to know that there is an automobile brand named
after him. The founder of the Lincoln brand of automobiles, Henry
Leland, made sure that this would be so.
Henry Leland was one of the founders of
Cadillac. He left this division of General Motors to be able to start
his very own Lincoln Motor Company. During the war, the company
produced aircraft engines. It started manufacturing luxury automobiles
not long before it was bought by the Ford Motor Company. The Lincoln
automobile had been the best-selling luxury brand in the United Sates
until the late 1990s, just before the advent of Japanese cars. It was a
proud, sought-after automobile which many believe to have combined both
comfort and luxury in one vehicle.
One
of the best models ever produced by the company is said to be the
Continental. It was a car designed especially for Edsel Ford’s personal
use. The car proved to be successful and was then sold commercially.
Lincoln also had a long line of limousine models that were famous for
being presidential cars, all of which were used from 1939 to 2004.
Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Bush were only some
of those who boarded these Lincoln limousines.
The strength of the Lincoln automobile
lies on the fact that it has continued to hold on despite fierce
competition, maintaining through the years the quality and elegance it
has always been known for. Many people believe that the Lincoln
automobile represents the ultimate luxury American vehicle, and that it
is unsurpassed in terms of all the advantages that it has come to offer
its patrons all throughout its existence.
