Lincoln Oxygen Sensor
Is your automobile among those produced after 1980? Or is it among the recently produced ones? Then you can check out your car's oxygen sensor. Every modern vehicle has, and most cars produced past 1980 have an oxygen sensor that forms part of the emissions control system and thereby relaying the data to the engine management computer for the analysis and interpretation. Its basic function is to help the engine work as efficiently as possible in addition to the production of emissions as few as possible.
Technically, an oxygen sensor is an electronic device that measures up the proportion of oxygen in the gas or liquid being analyzed. It is used in different applications but is popular in an automotive application. It is sometimes referred to as the O2 sensor, lambda probe, lambda sensor, lambda sond or exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) sensor.
An oxygen sensor like the Lincoln oxygen sensor measures the performance of an automobile's internal combustion engine by inserting said device into the exhaust system of a petrol engine and allows an electronic control unit or ECU to control the efficiency of the engine's combustion process. It determines the richness or leanness of air. If there is less air then it is called as a rich mixture which causes pollution, while the presence of more air is called lean mixture which causes nitrogen-oxide pollutants and can possibly result to poor performance and even engine damage.
After the information has been determined and recorded, it is then sent to the computer to make the necessary adjustments of the mixture, thus restoring the engine's performance at the best possible amount of fuel required to move a vehicle over a given distance, and lowest possible production of air-pollution causing emissions. Oxygen sensors are very vital that failure of which can lead to the damage of the catalytic converter and unimaginable cost of repairs. Keep an eye on your vehicle's oxygen sensor and replace it immediately when needed!
