You want a vehicle that provides responsive handling and notable power, or a luxury car that hits a considerable price value? Deciding what to choose is at times tough. Isn't it better if you'll get all those traits, all at once, in a single unit? It's not impossible. Lincoln has created a car that perfectly fits in. It's the Lincoln LS.
Equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 or a 3.9-liter V8 engine and rear wheel drive, LS was brought to life in order to compete with the BMW 5-series, Mercedes Benz E-Class and other sport sedans. It fitted into the Ford DEW platform which Jaguar S-Type was then also using. Late in 1999 when Lincoln LS rolled out the manufacturing plants to officially join its siblings in the showrooms as a 2000 model. It then became Motor Trend's Car of th Year for 2000, and was subsequently nominated for the Morth American Car of the Year award.
LS is the first ever Lincoln to offer a manual transmission system, specifically 5-speed manual transmission. With the combination of that transaxle, V8 engine and the rear-wheel drive, this vehicle can show demeanors that are comparable to European and Japanese sport sedans. The problem is that, Buyers practically choose automatic transmission. However, that concern was answered by the use of a special SelectShift automatic that allows manual gear to function without a clutch. And although all other luxury brands doesn't incorporate manual gear box in their creations besides BMW, the Lincoln LS still proves to be superior.
Lincoln LS received updates and offered more options in the following years. But in the summer of 2005 is to be dropped already, and in 2006 will cease in production. Expectedly a replacement shall be conceived somewhere in 2008.
