Aviation pertains to mechanical flight and aircraft industry. But for Lincoln, aviation cannot be solely used within the walls of that certain industry. The Ford Motor Company pulled the word to name one of its creations, the Lincoln Aviator. Doing so is putting the vehicle onto a higher level, at least in some sense. But really, Lincoln Aviator is one of a kind.
Aviator is the first mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle of Lincoln. It debuted only in 2003 along with the new edition of Ford Explorer. Possessing luxurious interior, unique appeal and sophisticated power, it rolled to the showrooms. Lincoln Aviators were equipped with 4.6-liter DOHC V8 engine, both the Premium and Luxury trims. That powerhouse was coupled with the standard 5-speed automatic transmission, giving out 302 horsepower at 5750 rpm and a torque of 300 lb-ft at 3250 rpm. This strength is enhanced and more noticed with the amenities and accessories injected into the machine. They brought convenience and comfort while crossing the paths through destinations. It remained as the machine of combined truck structure and demeanors of luxury car, was basically untouched until the first segment was cut in 2005.
In 2007, Lincoln Aviator is expected to join the lineup again. The same with the 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, Aviator will be using the CD3 platform, and will fit it in a crossover SUV or sport wagon of two row seats. This one would surely show something new. It would be full of improved features that will freshen up the image of the early Lincoln Aviators.
