Any damage on the engine system will definitely affect the vehicle performance and actually cause engine failure. This problem is the consequent reaction of the system in due of faulty valve cover. If we try to trace the root of the problem, we could end up with faulty valve cover. This auto part could either be bent or worn. Subsequently, it would let the lubricant seep out of the valve train, losing then enough oil for the rocker arms. As a result, the rocker arms will work stiffly and lead to deficient valve train operation, and then to engine failure.
Lexus valve covers like the valve covers of other automobiles look like plain coverings, but their work is indispensable to the vehicle’s valve train and engine performance. They are removable protective coverings bolted to the cylinder head which prevent oil leakage, avoiding then any problem concerning valve train oil shortage. Under the valve cover are pushrods that pump and disperse oil, which in return lubricate the Lexus rocker arms. The process creates certain level of pressure that can make the valve covers become problematic. If this happens, the oil would find its way out.
Oil leakage though is not always caused by defected valve covers, instead of valve cover gaskets. Valve covers often get damaged because of over-tightened valve cover screws. The thin sheet metal from which the auto part is made of easily break, when applied with too much pressure and strength. In response to that condition, the market has provided customers with tougher materials. Today, plastic, thermoplastic and composite Lexus valve covers are available. Moreover, they can be dressed with chrome, billet aluminum or carbon fiber for aesthetic improvement. And the engine compartment would look cooler when stylish Lexus valve covers that carry logo, flames and other designs is the one used to cover the cylinder head.
How can you prevent your Lexus from suffering the consequences of defective valve cover, so to spare yourself from the repair and replacement costs? Regularly check the condition of the valve cover and of course of the valve cover gaskets so as all other valve train parts. This way oil leakage can be noticed early on. The procedure is simple. It is done by manually pinching the valve cover gasket. If oil is squeezed, something’s wrong with the auto part. It is also done by removing the gasket and putting the valve cover back on to the cylinder head. When the valve cover and cylinder head come into contact, the cover should sit flat. If it rocks, it is bent.
