It is always fun to have a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that can capably traverse an off-road track, especially if you are one who would like to frequent such uneven trails. But wouldn't you find your SUV more valuable and practical if it also performs well on the road? Every SUV lover certainly would. And in order to please SUV lovers, the British Range Rover firm introduced the Land Rover Discovery.
The Land Rover Discovery is a luxury SUV manufactured and sold from 1989 up until the present. In the U.S., however, the vehicle was introduced only in 1994, joining the Land Rover Defender 90 and the Range Rover in Land Rover's vehicle line-up. Today, the Land Rover Discovery (Series III) is still being sold both in the U.S. and the U.K., although it is known in the U.S. as the Land Rover LR3.
The Land Rover Discovery is and has always been the most popular Land Rover vehicle, probably because of the vehicle model's style and performance. The overall appearance of the Land Rover Discovery is that of a modern SUV, although traces of the classic Land Rover style like that of the Land Rover Defender are clearly visible. And while the Discovery performs well on the road, it is also very capable on the off-road track, although not as utilitarian as the Defender.
The stylishness and performance of the Land Rover Discovery is but a result of the innovative engineering and modern technology used in the manufacture of the SUV. Not to be ignored, of course, are the premium and high performance Land Rover Discovery parts the vehicle was equipped with. This would include the various high-performance V8 engines that the vehicle was equipped with through the years, which were all coupled by capable transmission units and a permanent all-wheel-drive system. All of these are apart from the traditional quality and performance that almost every Land Rover vehicle exhibits.
