Many critics say that when you rate a new car positioned in the low-price range, you should be rating it by its lack of too many bad characteristics rather than by the presence of good attributes. If this is so, then the Kia Spectra would rank well. The Kia Spectra is not a very amazing car, but neither is it a problematic one. At its low price, it delivers well. And while it wouldn't perform like its high-priced rivals, neither would it disappoint you while driving on the road.
The Kia Spectra is a low-priced subcompact car manufactured and sold by Kia, a South Korean auto manufacturing company, from 2001 up to the present. When the vehicle model was first introduced, it was only available in hatchback body style. Actually, the Kia Spectra was introduced as a hatchback version of the Kia Sephia. In 2002, the Kia Spectra eventually replaced the Kia Sephia, although the new sedan was basically the same car with a new name. In its current form, the Kia Spectra is a sedan based on the platform used by the Hyundai Elantra. A hatchback model is also currently being sold as the Kia Spectra 5.
Kia branded the Kia Spectra as a sports sedan, but critics found nothing sporty about the car. It is true, however, that the Kia Spectra have a lot of good road characteristics, something one would not expect from a sedan on its price range. For one, the car exhibits good handling and road feel, thanks both to its solid construction and its 15-inch tires. The 138 hp 4-cylinder engine of the upscale EX trim also delivers well, although the 124 hp 4-cylinder engine of the base LX model gives out a mediocre performance.
At a price so low, it is normal for anyone to expect a trade-off in the Kia Spectra. Critics discovered the trade-off in the vehicle's set of interior features and amenities. The lack in features and the middling quality of the Kia Spectra parts, however, must be expected considering its price. And this should not worry auto buyers much, for additional and replacement Kia Spectra parts can easily be found either from Kia dealers or from various automotive parts sources everywhere.
