Would the cowl of your Jeep incur damages if you drive it daily on an off-road track? Some people would tell you that it would definitely incur much damage. They would say that an off-road track is too harsh and if the various body panel parts of the vehicle could get damaged, why can’t the cowl. However, some people would say otherwise. Which would you believe in, then? Well, maybe you should know first what the cowl is.

The cowl, which is also called the shuttle or the cowl panel in most European countries, is the sheet metal panel located beneath the vehicle’s front windshield. Specifically, the cowl is located between the engine firewall and the front of the dash panel, or if you view it from the outside of your vehicle, between the rear of the hood and the front of the windshield. The main purpose of the cowl is to provide support for the hood as well as for the windshield and windshield wiper. It also houses some components of the vehicle, among which are the pedals, the instrument panel, and some parts of the heater-ventilation unit of the vehicle.

Positioned in a place where it is not prone to a lot of damages caused by road debris during off-road travels, rarely would the Jeep cowl incur any damage. Unless your vehicle gets into a major collision with another vehicle, which I think would rarely happen on an off-road track, the Jeep cowl should not incur any damage. Damages in the cowl are only caused by at least two things: a major collision that can severely damage and crumple many parts of the vehicle, and rusts and leaks that has developed in the sheet metal as it was used through time. The first would most likely happen on paved roads while the other is common only to older Jeep vehicles, especially the early and unrefined ones.

So if someone tells you that you need to replace the cowl of your Jeep because it got damaged while traversing an off-road track, he must only be fooling you. But should you really find the need to replace your Jeep cowl, searching the Net for such part can greatly lessen you work.
