Jaguar Xjs
Jaguar XJS was branded an excellent and competent grand tourer. Its first appearance can
be traced way back in September 1975 as a replacement for the legendary Jaguar
E-type. Its former name was Jaguar XJ-S and was basically based from the XJ sedan
and formally came in as the 1976 model year.
A V12 version in both manual and automatic transmisisons brought its power. It
produced 60 mph in merely 6.9 seconds and accelerated up to 150 mph. As proof
of Jaguar XJS's expertise in grand touring, it had won the 1977 manufacturer's
championship cup. As any other automobile company, Jaguar XJS had been through
a lot of criticisms. First and foremost, its launching met the bad timing of the
fuel crisis.
It was in 1981 that Jaguar XJS had finally been rated with high efficiency fuel
economy and a year after, the vehicle won the first and second places at the Tourist
Trophy race held at Silverstone. Not long after that, a new 3.6-liter Jaguar AJ6
engine was added to its lineup and another version known as the Jaguar XJ-SC debuted
as well. This two-seat cabriolet version then was replaced with a two-seat convertible
version in the year 1988.
The former XJ-S was renamed XJS in 1991 following its getting redesigned and
reengineered. Among the changes that took place were the enlarged windows, the
4-litre version of the AJ6 engine, and the V12 was upgraded to 6 liters in 1993.
A convertible model was also introduced. Jaguar XJS's production finally met its
end in 1996.
