Automotive language is perhaps one of the most diverse topics to talk about. Taking cars for example, we can't say that they are confined only to makes, models and trims. Cars may also vary in classifications with regards to price, size, and intended broad market. Another thing to consider with cars is its different body styles. Convertible, cabriolet, coupe, XUV, hardtop, roadster, van, sedan, and hatchback are just some of these car body styles. A hatchback is one which consists of a passenger cabin and includes an integrated cargo space accessed behind by a hatch or sometimes being referred to as flip-up window. Hatchbacks are also sometimes called three-doors or five-doors composed of the two or four entry doors and the hatch.
Although other body styles such as SUVs, station wagons and minivans can also be classified as hatchbacks going by the description but technically, hatchbacks are typically being referred to small economy cars, and they have parcel shelf used for covering the cargo space hinged at the back of the the rear seats and raised with the hatch. One example of a three-door hatchback is the Isuzu Impulse that was produced from 1983 until 1992. More than a hatchback, the Isuzu Impulse is a small sporty, rear-wheel drive automobile but was switched to a front-wheel drive in 1989 when the second generation Impulse was introduced.
Basically, the Isuzu Impulse can be classified as first generation or second generation with the former being produced from 1982 for the 1983 model year and the latter being produced from 1989 for the 1990 model year. The two generation Impulse had distinct differences in terms of appearance, engine, drive wheel, transmission and suspension.
