Isuzu Axiom
Closely based on the ZXS concept vehicle, the Isuzu Axiom redefines
high performance, utility and luxury. The release of the new model is
caused by Isuzu's decrease of sales which was very unlikely to happen
for the last ten years. Isuzu wanted to create an innovative vehicle
that could save the company from steep decline. The ruggedness and
durability of the Axiom should be their savior.
The new SUV is powered by the 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 230 horsepower and
230 lb-ft of torque. For the more powerful 350 horsepower engine, Isuzu
claimed a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.5 seconds. The
'fuel-efficient', Trooper shared engine requires minimal maintenance.
It was available only in four-speed automatic transmission and in
rear-wheel drive or with Isuzu's Torque On Demand four-wheel drive.
This feature which separated the Axiom from other SUV enables the
vehicle to perform its own selection of choosing most suitable torque
distribution between the wheels.
The new Axiom is based on the Rodeo platform with a fully independent
front suspension, double-wishbones with torsion bar springs. The rear
suspension is a five-link live axle with coil springs. The Intelligent
Suspension Control semi active system, with suspension damping
optimized, are programmed to maximize the Axiom's performance with
comfort and sport modes.
The Isuzu Axiom lines with the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, GMC Envoy, and Toyota
Highlander in the market.
