Speed sensors can be found utilized in various applications. Generally speaking, a speed sensor is employed to obtain positional frequency information from the rotating systems. The information is sent to the controlling computer so that the system will act accordingly. With automotive application, speed sensors are utilized in two ways: through the wheels for the antilock braking system, and in the engine crankshaft for the engine system.

For the antilock braking system, the speed sensor is used mainly to measure gauge acceleration cornering forces, lap times and braking distances. The data gathered is the rotational speed of the wheel on your vehicle. These wheel speed sensors are located in each wheel although in other cases these are found on the differential. They function by gathering the data and transmitting it to the anti-lock management computer. The computer in turn processes the data received so that the system would determine if the wheels are about to lock up. When needed, the system will produce more traction especially if the wheels are suddenly skidding.

The second type is your engine speed sensors, the role of which is to control and regulate automotive transmission shift points, engine timing and efficient fuel delivery. An engine speed sensor is mounted on the crankshaft. It records the rate of the crankshaft while this is spinning. The data gathered, which is the speed signal, will be sent into the engine management computer. After the computer has received the speed signal it will function in turn to modify its performance while initiating diagnostic routines.

Given the nature of the job that speed sensors are playing, it is extremely a requirement that they function excellently at all times. Otherwise, they could be sending the wrong speed signal or the data to respective management computers. This could prompt the system to perform poorly, at which point it could be an alarming situation that your vehicle might interact with. If you don’t want this to happen, you should check and maintain regularly your Infiniti speed sensors. If they are found to be defective, fix them as soon as possible. If replacement is needed, Infiniti speed sensors are found in the market for Infiniti vehicles.
