Want to go to a place where no ordinary vehicle can take you? Then let
the Hummer carry you. Designed to handle rough roads, deep waters,
slippery slopes, inclines and tormenting ridges, a Hummer can take you
where no ordinary vehicle can. Not even the numerous modern SUVs we
have today, especially those that are designed only for elegance and
looks, can follow the Hummer’s trail.
Hummer is a brand of vehicles, particularly Sport utility
vehicles (SUVs), manufactured and designed by AM General but marketed
and sold in the US and in other markets by General Motors Corporation.
The Hummer is actually a civilian version of the M998 High Mobility
Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMVW), a vehicle used to be manufactured
for military use. And while the quality of Hummer vehicles have now
greatly improved, its style and performance is still reminiscent of
those military vehicles.
AM General planned to market civilian Hummer vehicles since
the 1980s. AM General was then the heavy industries division of the
American Motors Corporation (AMC). But even after the demise of AMC,
which was sold to Renault and Chrysler in succession, AM General still
went on manufacturing vehicles. In 1991, AM General started
manufacturing and selling civilian versions of the High Mobility
Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMVW) and branded them as Hummer
vehicles. In 1999, the trademark for Hummer was sold by AM General to
General Motors, although AM General still manufactures them until
today.
From the original vehicles marketed by AM General, there are
now three vehicle models for the Hummer. The original Hummer is now
known as the H1 and two new models were introduced under General
Motors, named H2 and H3.
The ownership of the Hummer brand has changed but their
manufacturers remained the same. Therefore, we can expect that the
qualities loved by people who bought the Hummer before is still in the
Hummer vehicles that we have now. We can expect them to be equipped
with the same quality of Hummer parts that they were used to be
equipped and therefore perform just the way they used to.
