Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is a minivan manufactured by Honda since 1995. You would probably picture it as a small size van with sliding doors on the side because that's how a common van looks like. But the Honda Odyssey is no ordinary van or minivan, a proof of Honda's innovativeness. The Honda Odyssey was introduced in 1995 in a four-door version. It looked like a big sedan and not a van with sliding doors on the side. Another unique feature of the Odyssey was its flat-folding third row seat, making it the first minivan to have such feature. On its first year, it was designated as the Car of the Year for 1995 by the Wheels magazine.

In 1999, Honda Odyssey went through a major revision. It was restyled to give it a more modern look. It also grew in size to better compete with other minivan models in the market. It retained its flat folding rear seats and some other features. Soon other auto manufacturers began to equip their minivan models with Odyssey's flat folding rear seats. Generally, the second generation Honda Odyssey received favorable reviews and it was even the Car and Driver magazine's Best Van for 2001. In Japan, it was sold as the Honda Lagreat through 2004 model year.

Another major revision was made in 2004. In Japan, the Odysseys were redesigned a year earlier. Third generation Honda Odyssey was still based on the same platform, the Honda Accord platform. Unique right from the very start, that's the Honda Odyssey. Thus, for its third generation, it didn't go with the rest of the minivans out in the market. Instead of going taller, the 2004 Honda Odyssey went lower but wider. Again, the Odyssey got favorable response from its users, auto journalists and enthusiasts alike. Proofs of its excellence in the minivan segment are the Canadian Truck of the Year award for 2005, Car and Driver Best Van title and Australia's Best People Mover award in 2004.
