The intake system is one of the key factors that
affect the performance of your GMC vehicle. It is the system that
supplies sufficient quality air which is really important for the
proper and smooth engine operation. For each portion of gasoline, the
internal combustion engine requires about 14.7 parts of air. So if the
intake system failed to deliver adequate amount of clean air, then
you’ll be compromising the performance of the engine.
The intake manifold is among the very significant components of the
vehicle’s intake or induction system. In any GMC vehicle, the GMC
intake manifold is the mechanism that’s responsible for taking the air
as it enters the engine and transferring it by means of intake passages
into the runner ports. These runner ports are basically placed in the
cylinder heads. The air that enters the cylinder will then be mixed
with the fuel and this air-fuel mixture helps in the combustion process
to create power.
The GMC engine is largely affected by the GMC intake manifold
particularly during it operating range. The automotive industry has
different intake manifold designs such as single-plane, dual-plane,
tunnel ram and individual runner. These types of intake manifold are
then categorized into units for small-blocks and big-blocks and for
street and track application. The single plane intake manifold carries
the simplest design. It contains a plenum to feed each of the intake
runners. These runners in a single plane intake manifold usually
feature one turn and are relatively short compared to the runners found
in dual-plane manifolds. Since they are designed for high rpm
operation, single plane intake manifold will not work well on mild and
meek street engines.
The dual-plane exhaust manifolds on the other hand, are the units
intended for carbureted street applications. Its design works like a
single-plane manifold, only that, one side of it feeds on four
cylinders and the other side feeds another four cylinders. Moreover,
modified aftermarket or sheetmetal intakes are good for your racing
applications.
Most high-performance intake manifolds in the industry, including some
GMC exhaust manifolds are made from cast aluminum or sheetmetal. If you
expect the best possible performance from your GMC engine, just see to
it that your GMC intake manifold is always in tiptop shape and
condition. GMC intake manifolds feature remarkable design and
finely-crafted walls so that warping at the gasket mounting surfaces
will be prevented.
